How to Add Overlays to Meld Studio and OBS ⭐
Your ForeverHumans overlay lives at one permanent link — your link, nobody else's, and it never changes. Your alerts, pop animations and sounds all ride that one link. Set it up once and forget it exists. That's the whole point.
This guide drops that link into Meld first, then OBS.
Get your link
- Open your ForeverHumans toolkit dashboard.
- Copy your overlay link. (Crew tip jar, link page and panels each have their own links — this one is the overlay.)
Guard this link like a stream key. Anyone holding it can put your alerts on their screen.
In Meld Studio ⭐
- Open the scene you want the overlay on (usually your main Live scene).
- Copy your overlay link.
- Click on the Meld canvas and paste (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V). Done — Meld turns a pasted URL into a Browser layer by itself.
Prefer the long way? Layers panel → + → Browser, then paste the URL into the URL field in the Inspector panel.
- Drag the layer to full screen — overlays are built for 1920×1080. Use Lock Size on the layer if you don't want it resizing when you nudge it.
The step everybody misses: overlay SOUND
A Meld browser layer is silent by default. Your alerts will show but never make a noise until you do this:
- Select the Browser layer.
- In the Inspector, under the URL field, turn on Add an audio track for the source.
- Want to hear the alerts yourself? Turn on CUE on that audio track. Your viewers hear it either way — CUE is for YOUR ears.
Overlay looks frozen or stale? Click the reload icon next to the URL field to refresh the layer.
🧰 Field note — from the bench: CleanDEE's overlay placement habits — where he keeps alerts so they never cover the action — goes here.
In OBS Studio (Browser Source)
- In the Sources box, click + and pick Browser.
- Name it something honest, like "FH Overlay".
- Paste your overlay link in the URL field.
- Set Width 1920 and Height 1080 for a full-screen overlay. (A standalone alert box usually wants 800 × 600 instead — the toolkit tells you the size on the same screen you copied the link from.)
- Tick Refresh browser when scene becomes active — your overlay wakes up fresh every time you switch to that scene.
- Click OK. Drag the source to the TOP of the Sources list so alerts draw over your game, not under it.
Test it before it counts
- Back in your toolkit dashboard, hit Fire a test (or ask the Roadie: "test my overlay").
- You should see the pop animation AND hear the sound.
- See it but can't hear it?
- Meld: you skipped the audio track step. Go back up — it's the missed step, it gets everybody once.
- OBS: check the source isn't muted in the Audio Mixer, and that "Control audio via OBS" is set how you expect for that source.
- Nothing at all? Reload/refresh the browser layer, then re-copy the link from your dashboard — links copied from an old screenshot or a chat log can be stale. The dashboard link is the truth.

Quick answers
Why do my alerts show but make no sound in Meld? A Meld browser layer is silent by default. Select the layer, and in the Inspector under the URL field turn on Add an audio track for the source. Turn on CUE if you want to hear them yourself.
What size should my overlay be in OBS? 1920 × 1080 for a full-screen overlay. A standalone alert box is usually 800 × 600 — the toolkit tells you the size on the same screen you copied the link from.
Where do I paste an overlay link in OBS? Sources → + → Browser, then paste the link in the URL field. Drag the source to the top of the list so alerts draw over your game, not under it.
