PWE vs Bubble Mailer: When Each One Is Right

Seller School · The two-trigger rule from the CleanCards shipping desk

Most of my singles ship in a thick trading-card mailer as a non-machinable letter — the PWE lane. It's fast, it's cheap (about $1.10 all-in), and with the right build inside, it's safe. Full build details are in How to Ship a Trading Card.

The two triggers for a bubble mailer

Trigger 1: the single item is over $20. Trigger 2: the package is thicker than 1/4 inch. Either one fires, it graduates.

What doesn't change

Everything inside. The card still gets penny sleeve → toploader → team bag, then gets sandwiched between cardboard protectors, and only then goes into the bubble mailer. Beginners upgrade the envelope and downgrade the build. Do the opposite: the mailer changes; the protection never does.

And the mail itself

Be patient with the mail — and tell your buyers the same. Non-machinable letters move on their own schedule. A calm message and a solid build beat a refund panic every time.
